 An Earnest Appeal

Friends, here’s an appeal from SAHYOG, a small NGO working out of Yelahanka Satellite Town, Bangalore.  We basically assist people in need, to meet their educational and medical expenses.  People in need are in millions and ours may be just a drop in the ocean but little drops make an ocean and with that in mind, we continue lending our hands to society.  For our regular activities, please check out our blogsite https://sahyog-sahyog.blogspot.com.

2020 onwards, the world has changed a lot for the worse.  COVID-19 has turned the world upside down and there is not anywhere that human beings can escape this deadly virus.  Thus any kind of assistance from any corner is welcome.   Millions of people are in distress and need assistance.  Last year, right from March, SAHYOG started diverting all its funds towards the needs of the people hit by the pandemic.  SAHYOG assisted four community kitchens set up around Bangalore (one of them run by a transgender) to feed the thousands of migrant labourers who lost their livelihoods, shelters and everything overnight!  Then, of course, we assisted a few poor patients to get treated, get fed and meet the educational expenses of their children.  We assisted destitute homes, orphanages and senior citizen homes to get their rations and regular medicines.  Details will be put up on our blog.

We augured 2021 with the hope that the virus will bid goodbye to this planet.  But the virus has only strengthened itself and is hitting us harder during this second wave.  India is shaken thoroughly and the system is simply not able to bear the burden.  SAHYOG once again decided to step in with its small hands.  Our trustee Mansoor Chetlu, a born activist, worked as a coordinator on behalf of all the NGOs with the State Government last year.  This year, he started his work independently, besides coordinating for NGOs like SAHYOG.  The following are the purposes that we would like to focus as of now, though the list may extend based on the situations that arise as the time goes:

  1. Supporting community kitchens.  Already two kitchens have started functioning, one of them run by the employees of a small hotel, which had to close down due to lockdown and one run by a widow.  These kitchens pack food packets (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) thrice a day, at the rate of Rs.45 per packet.  These packets are delivered to hundreds of patients and their families who are quarantined inside their houses by dedicated volunteers.  Most of these families are those that have lost jobs and have no means to order on Swiggy!

  2. Supplying the essential medicines, rations, medical equipments like nebulisers, pulse oxy-meters, BP apparatus, glucometers, gloves, PPE kits, sanitisers, masks and toiletries to destitute homes, orphanages, senior citizen homes, charitable hospitals and even needy individuals.

  3. Donating oxygen concentrators/cylinders to hospitals in need.

  4. Offering the service of getting the oxygen cylinders refilled, transporting medical supplies, shifting destitutes to shelters/hospitals, etc.

  5. Assisting people in distress to meet their medical, educational and funeral expenses.

If not for generous donors, SAHYOG cannot make this difference in society.  We appeal to all of you to kindly support us to carry on our noble mission.  We know you will already be doing it in various other ways and helping people around you.  But, any small contribution to us will go a long way.
